Changes coming in 2027: ARRT has updated the radiography content specifications for exams from March 1, 2027. For example, computed radiography (CR) content is being removed, virtual grids are being added and some procedures and positions are changing. Check the content specifications that apply to your exam date on the ARRT website.

How to use your results

  • Look at your weakest content area first. Procedures and safety together make up more than half of the scored questions.
  • Read every explanation, even for questions you got right. Make sure you knew why, not just guessed.
  • Turn mistakes into flashcards. Write the concept, not just the answer.
  • Retake the test later. The answer order changes, so you can check whether you really know the material.

Study tips for the ARRT exam

  1. Start with the official content specifications. They list every topic that can appear.
  2. Make a study schedule for the weeks before your exam, rotating through all four areas.
  3. Practice under time pressure. Do sets of questions with a timer to build speed.
  4. Know your formulas. Inverse square law, the 15% rule, magnification and grid conversion factors come up often.
  5. Learn positioning by doing. Review images from your clinical rotations and practice evaluating them.
  6. Use your program’s review resources, such as registry review courses and mock exams.
  7. Rest before exam day. Know your testing center, bring the right ID and arrive early.
